Aeration

Aeration is the process of removing cores in the turf. This allows for the grass roots to grow deeper. The purpose is to improve the root system by loosening the soil around them and giving them more oxygen and nutrients. Aeration also slows the buildup of thatch because it helps microorganisms work more effectively at breaking down this plant material. The plugs are left on the lawn surface to gradually break down back into the lawn. Aerification is particularly beneficial when compaction becomes a problem. Compacted soils can produce shallow-rooted grass, which leaves your turf highly vulnerable to disease and environmental stress. We recommend aerating at least once every other year in compacted soil.
